Train coaches

Post by Red_Army_Squad »

I think the goal of SP is for the game to be like football in real life. So to do that I thought of this great feature which could be added to realise that goal.
In real life you have some managers who are very good like Mourinho, Benitez, Hiddink and of course you have managers who are less good and train lower division teams.
I think it would be a good thing if SP added an option to train coaches. A coach should be able to train skills like "tactics", "communication", "training" and some more. And I think that players should get better when the coach is better. So when a team gets a better coach, some skills of players aren't maximized anymore and they get better.
Now a new coach is 100% after 3 weeks. With this feature it should take longer and some coaches should not even reach the 100%, but just 80% or something, just like players!
And maybe not only the coaches should be trained, but also the assistant manager and scout. For example: a scout of 100% can see all (or 8) maximized skills of a player are 100% or not. And a scout of 60% can only see 2 maximized skills.

It sounds like a really good idea on the face of it, but when you think a bit deeper, I don't see it working out. Here's my problem...

In real life, the difference between the talent level of a top premier league team and everybody else is immense. If Wolves and Manchester United play, a slightly better coach running Wolves would almost certainly not affect the outcome of the game, because Man U has so much more talent than Wolverhampton does.

But in SP, because everyone can afford to keep the players they develop, the talent level between teams of different divisions and teams within the division is much smaller. In SP, a team of Wolverhamptons level (Division B or C) is only 1 or 2 points behind a team of Man U's level. The effect of a coach at this point is enormous. Every tiny advantage that a team gets has a MAJOR impact on how well they do.

So the top leagues would eventually be dominated by teams who were lucky enough to grab a good coach. Coaches can have careers of 30 years long, so teams with that advantage are not going to lose it. Teams can't buy good coaches, and even if they could, no-one in possession of one is going to sell them.

So the only way I could see this working is if top level coaches had astronomical salaries, and that there were enough coaches available to everyone so that the best coaches weren't all taken by teams in the top divisions.

I understand your problem with this feature, but having a good coach doesn´t have to mean that the team is performing much better, just a bit! See it like home advantage!
When you have to teams with an avarage rating of 75% and team A has a better coach, team A has a better chance of winning the game, but not too much.
I think the diffrence between all of the coaches should be big. I think the minimum should be 75% and the maximum 100%. But just like with players, the best coach will only reach a max of 95%.
And yeah I think the good coaches should have good salaries! But I don´t think that the top leagues will be dominated by teams who have better coaches. Like you said the players also matter.
Nowadays all coaches are 100% and it has no sense in firing him, but with this feature the option "fire staffmember" will have some sense! If you have bad coach you just fire him and start training a new one.

Like I said before: this feature will add more realism in the game!
