Retrain player

I don't know if this has been suggested before (it probably has), but anyway, here's perhaps a new angle on it: allow re-training of players to fit them into a new position. This happens in RL and I think it would be a cool feature in SP under certain limits.

My idea would be to allow retraining a player to a new position at the expense of resetting his abilities in the core fields of his new position (e.g. if you retrain someone for CB, his skills in heading and tackling should be reset).

This means you'll have to train the retrained player for a while before you can effectively use him in a new position. There's got to be some penalty ofc.

The point is that sometimes you can have a player with good tackling skills who is playing midfield. Would be awfully nice to move him to defense if you're short on CBs. Etc.

My suggestion would be to limit possible retraining to:

SW<=>CB
LB<=>LM
RB<=>RM
CB<=>CM
LM<=>LF
RM<=>RF
CM<=>CF

GK: no retraining.

But I'd also limit retraining to once per player.

So you cannot for example go:

LB=>LM=>LF .

The reason why I suggest something like left side players staying on the left is because I seem to read that the center field players are the most expensive. So it would probably mess up the transfer market if all kinds of players could be made center field players.

There could also be other penalties introduced. Like loss of morale or a monetary cost or something.

good idea. especialy for SW. [for SW i think is good to be able to go GK]

maybe the age can be restricted, the player even can lose >50% morale, to pay the coach extra, and why-not only maxed players to be allowed to change position?

I think you also need to have the follow moves:
RB <=> CB
LB <=> CB
RM <=> CM
LM <=> CM
RF <=> CF
LF <=> CF

good idea. It could be a correction of the fact that your youth centre never raises a CM, but always a CF...

Very good idea. I liked it. It'll bring some tactical thinking for the managers.

I really like it...

I do wonder about 1 thing.

All three groups (DEF/MID/ATT) have 1 unique skill:
Defenders: Play it out
Midfielders: Playmaking
Attackers: Insight

So if you switch from one group to the other, you can keep those skills that are in both groups, but this 1 skill will go away and you have to train from 0 on the new skill, not knowing how good it will become.

Hmmm.... Now that I think about it, this makes it even more interesting.

I love this idea!! :P

so SW can not get retrained, if we apply sljiv's idea :)

Why not?

SWs don't have unique skill, they have the same unique skill as other defenders.

so, if the unique skill is nulled, also the old & new headskills shall get nulled.

sadly, i think SW don't have a future in this game, on the current stage...

Gd idea

But would the players still be able to play as their original position or not?

Ehm...no? The whole idea was to retrain them for a new ideal position. They will 'forget' their old position. I.e. you shouldn't be able to use them in two positions. Otherwise retraining will become a nobrainer.

Keyelpk: I don't see how that changes the option to retrain SWs. It just means their tackling, heading and whatnot is going to be reset and then they emerge as a CB.

Btw.: does anyone happen to know if Sjarel ever considers all these suggestions? Let alone, does he read them at all?

consider the new features that are coming almost every season ... i guess he does consider this side of the forum. but not every idea is good, after the debates he decides taking in consideration also the possibility of implementation of an good idea.

leave sjarel alone. i don't think he prefers to read the posts of a bunch of crybabies? he has got only one to look after now!
