Player Morale and Friendlies

This probably has been brought up earlier (or at least I'll be surprised if it hasn't), but I'd like to see the player morale handled a little more intelligently in order to make things more realistic and maybe a little bit more fair. The way it is now a team that's playing a lot of friendlies and friendly cups is in a competitive disadvantage in league games.

Because all players think they should be playing in all games, it means a team participating in friendly competitions will in practice never play at its best in league games. If I've got a meaningless friendly against a division Z team, I'm obviously not playing my stars in that contest to keep their Fitness up for the upcoming, much more important league game. Still all my best players are bitchin'n'moanin' about if they're not in the friendly game lineup, leading to a situation where I will never have 100/100 Morale/Fitness players in league games.

I know that playing in friendlies and friendly cups provide you with increased morale and experience for the players who play in those games along with team spirit recovery and also some prize money if you happen to be successful, so there are rewards, too. Significant rewards. So I acknowledge there are two sides in this coin.

But in terms of realism, I don't know why my star players' morale should drop if they're not playing in a friendly exhibition game while I'm trying to keep them in top shape for the most important game of the season. Or why I should be in disadvantage against a team that's not arranging any friendlies.

For the good of the game, too, it a motive for a question: Do we really want to have it so that only a team that's not actively taking part in friendly competitions will be able to win the championships?

As for solutions, maybe your "projected starters" shouldn't care about friendlies, or at least should care less. And it could also be a two-way street, with the stars being even more pissed off if they're not in a league or cup game.

Just some thoughts on an issue that has bothered me a bit.

I agree on most parts...

It is a b*tch to see good players loose moral due to the playing of meaningless friendlies...

Although...

It it for everyone the same, and what you say about winning championships without playing friendlies isn't true in my opinion... This way, you will only have an A-team having moral 100%... Your B and C-players will have an horrible moral, and you will get injuries and suspensions in your A-team, without having any replacements available...
So going for the championship will be not so easy as it seems...

Yeah, but as I said, or at least tried to say, the main reason why it bothers me is that it's not quite realistic now.

True... But I believe too much realism would kill the game... It's quite difficult to see a difference between important friendlies and unimportant friendlies... The latter wouldn't affect good players' moral, but would affect the lousy players'... The former would affect both...
It seems quite difficult to draw the line, and since it is the same for everyone, and it obliges you to take decisions, it is something of a challenge...
