This is how a sweeper performs:
Form 59–58–60–60–68
The last game was when he played as a sweeper. This is a player who's 85% global rating. So he'll earn a lot of money soon, but if I don't play with 5 defenders he'll only perform as well as a player with global rating of 77%. You can see I should sell the sweeper if I have to pay his wages. So having sweepers is useless. They just don't perform well enough in relation to their wages.
My proposal:
- Make it possible to play with a sweeper when you only use 3 or 4 defenders. The impact should be obvious: he's giving cover to all defenders, but when the other team plays with 3 attackers, one attacker will have more space if you play 2 defenders and a sweeper. In real life teams are also playing a sweeper when playing 4-4-2 or even 3-5-2 if the other team has only two strikers.
- If the first proposal can't be implemented, why not give sweepers less high wages. If they perform 8% less good, there wages should drop a lot.
If you can't make any changes to the situation of the sweeper, you might just as well cut sweepers from te game.

Some help for sweepers
You'll never walk alone
I've come to the same conclusion. They're the most useless position in the game, since people hardly ever use 5 defenders. I would sell my sweepers in 2 seconds if they were any good, and I have no intention of renewing their contracts.
I'd just lower the penalty if a CB plays in the sweeper role and vice versa, like to 1% or something. The positions are more alike than most.
