Tell me where you'd fit it in the calendar and I'll have one less argument against it.

Is that not just a shortened version of the league?

If you were to have a division cup that would make more sense. Where all H teams play each other, etc.

But as Ze says there is no time in the calendar, unless an extra week or 2 is added, which won't happen.

We could use another time of the day...
Although that doesn't look likely either...

Teams in a division play only two games each other. So I think the season in SP is something like a cup.
So I thing, this is a usseles idea.

Teams only play each other twice in most leagues. ¬_¬

The whole point of having a league cup where all H division teams play each other etc etc would be to make it so that somebody outside the top few divisions has a chance of winning a cup, I guess.

It could easily be arranged so that the cups are tiered, eg Divisions A-C play SP Cup
D-F play Mid Tier Cup
G and H play Lower Division Cup

and the prize money get scaled accordingly. That way there is no need to alter the calendar, and smaller clubs still have a shot at winning a cup.

That's bullshit. Everyone has the right to enjoy SP Cup and eventuely meet some superclubs from A and B divisions. It happened to me at this Cup season and it was great fight (my E-division team lost the away game against B-division Dales Athletic on penaulty shootout after 1:1 draw in normal time).

It is essential part of playing a cup - weak and strong teams are playing together and everyone has the chance. :-)

I was suggesting that in addition to the SP Cup ¬_¬
and before someone says it, I dont see why you cant run one cup on wednesday and one on saturday...so the fixture issue...isnt really an issue...is it?

Either way, the above example doesnt make my suggestion "bullshit"
Firstly, its a rare case...
Secondly, how many teams below F division actually CARE about the SP Cup? Not many. Why? Because its pretty much a hopeless cause. I'd rather risk my cash on friendly tournaments.

Sure it happens that you have close games with big clubs, and you might get the occasional scalp, but its rare. Especially given the nature of how matches are simulated on SP.

Its a nice theory that "everyone has a chance" but the fact remains that even if by some miracle you made it to the last 8, even the last 16 actually, you'd get slaughtered. Mainly because nobody would risk playing their second/third string against a club who had reached that far.

So, unless of course you have a ridiculously strong side in a low division...its a hopeless cause, in which you risk injuring your best players and/or tiring them out, and when you're in H division, the league is INFINITELY more important than the SP Cup.

By introducing lesser cups, it would give smaller teams a realistic target. Like how we have the FA Cup, and then the FA Trophy for smaller clubs.

It is since
  1. The SP Cup is also played on Saturdays
  2. Later stages (from round 11 onwards, I think) are played at a ratio of one round per day.

You got a very good point there.
In real life, there is a form-factor, mental factor, etcetera.
In SP, it's numbers. Put the higher numbers in, you win...
FC Wageningen

S13 - S19..: B.2
S20..: A!! (12th)
S21 - S22: B.2
S23..: A!! (15e)

S27 & onwards: C-division and lower.
Currently (S41): E.45

Fault, there is mental factor too in SP. It is different from the real life, but it is there. All TopDivisions teams have to decide what to do - set C-team for SP cup game against an opponent form F/E, or set up something better and risk the league fights becose of lower fitness? And on the other side it is the same - wow, I am going to play against B-division team! I have no chance, but maybe he will set up C-team against me, what I have to do...? :-)

And there are more possible ways, how to use mental factors. E.g. in my fight with Dales Athletic: I sended "congratulation for promotion to the next SP Cup round" message to my opponent one day before the match. And then set up the best possible formation against him. Yes, it was ugly and maybe unfair too, but I really wanted to promote. :)

This is my point though, by the time you reach the last eight, if you CAN play a strong side, you WILL.
It would make no sense not to at that stage, so the smaller, weaker clubs dont get to scalp big teams like they can in the FA Cup for example.

There is no factor beyond a managers decision over which numbers to put in. Any good team has cover for all positions anyway.

The cup as it stands now...its practically impossible to get past the third or fourth round if you're below F division. Fact.
