After all, no-one who is in the running to win the SP cup is going to play anything other than their best players.
They may if there's the opportunity to make money from it.

This feature would do nothing but encourage cheating.

Think about it:

The only result anyone can guarentee is their team losing. If they put a huge bet on their team losing they could as much as double their money, maybe more depending on the odds!

If I have €5m in the bank, and I bet it all on my team losing, and I do lose (by cheating) I can easily come back with €10m or even €15m!

but there should also be a rule which prevents you from betting on your own team.

also if you beat on 12 games at the same time, you can not gain any money if you have under 10 right. not all of the 24 team would cheat!

So my friend comes up to me and says "I'm going to bet €10m that you lose. If you lose, I'll make X amount of profit. I'll half it with you buy buying off a player for some rediculous amount."

Still encourages cheating

Yes that would, but that's nothing like anything that has been under discussion here.

Not entirely sure on the private messaging problem, it could be and it could not, wouldn't know until it was implemented. 9Thinking it through there's little point emailing an A divison side as they aren't going to be throwing any games, and there is little point when the money invloved in the betting will be nominal, but people aren't always rational as we well know ;)) Though keeping the teeams random would solve it, that makes things a bit awkward. Probably be much less of an issue with manager points over money.

In any case, still on the fence on it. Nice idea to throw into the mix at the very least. :)

Summary

OK guys, take this as a final summary and commentary of your notes and also as a final version of my feature request:

I believe all your objections about cheating can be easily solved by setting a limit on one bet. My suggestion is 1000,-. No one from A division would loose match for such small amount.

To make this easier for SP programmers I suggest that players could only bet exactly 1000,- or NOTHING, no other text boxes for specifying smaller bets.

Bets could be placed only on A division matches. There are 8 matches every day, that makes maximum of 8000,- bet in one day.

Final amount taken from bets would be divided between players who correctly tipped the result of the match.

Now, how much can a really good player win in a long term? I think it can't be more than 70-80% and that's only for the best. So, extra income of 3-6 thousands every day is NOT something to be affraid of. This is similar to income from one advertising board, but THERE'S MUCH MORE GAME BEHIND IT! (than just scrolling down the page and looking for the lowest number of days)

Each manager would have a new attribute in his details containing total amount that he gained / lost on betting. There can be a special table with the best and the worst bookmakers.

Even though this feature request may sound a little strange, I believe only a few days after it's implemented thousands of SP players will have betting on A division in their every day routine.
